What Would Experience Be if You Could Have One

Runtime – 15:58Directed by Mark Wooding

“We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning,” Jean Baudrillard once wrote (opens in a new tab).

The French cultural theorist spent his career exploring the endless abyss of information and how we might find meaning in it. While he wrote through the rise of television and the early days of the modern internet, his ideas on media, culture, and technology resonate today. In particular, his ideas on information overload, the “real” and what’s “hyperreal”.

The audio above is from a lecture series called “The Self Under Siege: Philosophy in the Twentieth Century,” by the American philosopher Rick Roderick (opens in a new tab). His ideas and explanations are brought to life by the wonderful illustrations of Mark Wooding.
